Superposition principle in linear networks with controlled sources

چکیده
Abstract. The manuscript discusses a well-known issue that, despite its fundamental role in basic electric circuit theory, seems to be tackled without the needful attention. The question if the Principle of Superposition (POS) can be applied to linear networks containing linear dependent sources still appears as an addressed point unworthy to be further discussed. Conversely, the analysis of this point has been recently re-proposed [5, 6] and an alternative conclusion has been drawn. From this result, the manuscript provides an alternative approach to such issue from a more general point of view. It is oriented to clarify the issue from the didactic viewpoint, rather than provide a more efficient general technique for circuit analysis. By starting from a linear system of equations, representing a general linear circuit containing controlled sources, the correct interpretation of “turning off” the controlled elements in terms of circuit equivalent is provided, so allowing a statement of the POS for linear circuits in a wider context. Further, this approach is sufficiently intuitive and straightforward to fit the needs of a Basic Electric Circuit Theory class.

Analysis of Electrical Circuits with Controlled Sources through the Principle of Superposition
Abstract— In the text books, while solving the circuits with controlled sources using Principle of Superposition (POS), controlled sources are not deactivated. Thus POS has not been applied in the ‘true sense’ to circuits with dependent sources. It is shown here that POS can be applied in the ‘true sense’ to such circuits also, but with caution. POS is applicable to all those circuits with depe...
متن کاملOn the Application of Superposition to Dependent Sources in Circuit Analysis
Many introductory circuits texts state or imply that superposition of dependent sources cannot be used in linear circuit analysis. Although the use of superposition of only independent sources leads to the correct solution, it does not make use of the full power of superposition. The use of superposition of dependent sources often leads to a simpler solution than other techniques of circuit ana...
متن کاملAWE: Asymptotic Waveform Estimator
Asymptotic Waveform Estimator (AWE) is a waveform estimator for general RC networks which can be used to estimate signal propagation delays through VLSI interconnects. The interconnects are modeled as resistors and capacitors connected such that each node has a capacitance to ground. State variable approach is used to obtain the steady-state asymptotes and the Forward Euler approximation for th...
متن کاملBlast vibration modeling using linear superposition method
A linear superposition method was used for modeling the time history of the production blast vibrations and optimizing the blast sequence to reduce vibration levels in Sar-Cheshmeh copper mine, Kerman, Iran. A single-hole blast for modeling and two double-hole blasts with time delays of 25 and 65 ms between two holes for modeling validation were carried out. The generated vibrations were measur...
متن کاملTheory of the superposition principle for randomized connectionist representations in neural networks
To understand cognitive reasoning in the brain, it has been proposed that symbols and compositions of symbols are represented by activity patterns (vectors) in a large population of neurons. Formal models implementing this idea (Plate, 2003; Kanerva, 2009; Gayler, 2003; Eliasmith et al., 2012) include a reversible superposition operation for representing with a single vector an entire set of sy...
